4 Unique Ways to Announce Your Engagement

Your engagement deserves much more than a relationship status update on Facebook. After all, this is a huge moment in anyone’s life. Sure, you’re so excited you probably want to shout, “We’re engaged!” to anyone and everyone who might be listening on and offline, but it’s important to savor this precious time. Tell all of your close friends and family members the news before you post it on Facebook or any other social networking sites.

If you can’t resist announcing your engagement to the world via Facebook, keep in mind “friends” you barely know, haven’t seen in years, or perhaps have never even met, may assume they are invited to the wedding. Some might even ask to be a part of it, like your old best friend from junior high school you hadn’t had the heart to completely break ties with.

There are many creative and old-fashioned ways to make an engagement announcement instead of broadcasting your news across the planet.

A surprise engagement party

Surveys have found as many as 39 percent of proposals take place between November and February, with the most occurring in December. The odds are good, if you’ve recently become engaged, you may be able to take advantage of an upcoming holiday to announce your engagement. Even if that isn’t the case, you can probably still come up with another reason to throw a party. Let your friends and loved ones think it’s just a regular party for the holidays or another celebration, then break open the bubbly for a champagne toast to reveal the real reason.

Sing your announcement

For the adventurous couple who aren’t afraid to get on stage and sing, consider inviting your friends and family out for a karaoke night. Sign up for a wedding song like, “Going to the Chapel of Love” by the Dixie Cups, or Train’s “Marry Me.”

All you need to do is sing a few bars of the song, and then make the announcement to the audience.

A unique holiday card

Another way to take advantage of the holiday season is to design unique cards with Minted by using a special photo. One really cute idea is to have your engagement details printed on an ornament, take a picture of it, and then turn it into a unique greeting card that also announcements your engagement.

Or, you might send a Happy New Year’s card that says something like, “New Year, New Beginnings…from the future Mr. and Mrs. John Smith.”

Create a video

Create a video slideshow by using photos and videos of you and your bride- or groom-to-be from favorite vacations or dates together. It can be as elaborate or as simple as you’d like. You could even include your favorite love song in the background. The final photo might be a picture of the two of you with the bride-to-be holding up a sign that says, “I said yes.”

Hold a special “reveal” with your family and close friends to play the video in front of them, and then send it out via email to anyone else you’d like to know about your engagement.
