It's Tuesday again...and you know that means I spent a lovely Monday afternoon crafting up a storm! This week's challenge was Green Wedding Shoes' DIY Paper Flowers. This was definitely my favorite DIY so far! It was simple, didn't call for too many materials, and ended up really pretty.
The best thing about these paper flowers is that they're versatile. It looks great as a centerpiece item shown in the Green Wedding Shoes photo above, but you can use these flowers in bouquets, garlands, boutonnieres, as altar decorations, on wedding cakes and party favors...you name it!

All you need for this DIY are a couple coffee filters, tape, scissors, tissue paper (or magazine pages if you're feeling adventurous), and paper-covered wire. You can find paper-covered wire at craft stores like Joann or Michaels. They're cheap too -- I got my pack of eight for $2.00!
Step 1: Take your two coffee filters, and fold them in half. It should look like a semi circle (Fig. 1)
Step 2: Cut two notches into the coffee filter to make the petals. Cut more if you want more than four petals (Fig. 2)
Step 3: Unfold. You now have the petals for your flower!
Step 4: Now move onto the tissue paper. This will be the center of your flower. Fold the tissue like an accordion, with each pleat being about 2 inches wide.
Step 5: Find the side with the most folds -- that will give you the most ruffles! Begin snipping down the length of your tissue paper, cutting in about 3/4 - 1 inch.
Step 6: Make sure you snip all the way to the end of the tissue. At this stage, your tissue should look like the blue tissue in Fig. 6.
Step 7: Now comes the fun part. Take your paper-covered wire, and place it on one end of the long tissue strip. Make sure the cut end of the tissue sticks out a little further past the paper-covered wire. Now, begin to roll the tissue around the wire. Make sure to fluff the ruffles from the tissue out every once in a while!
Step 8: Keep on rolling until you have reached the end. Then, fasten the bottom of the rolled-up tissue to the paper-covered wire with scotch tape. Amazing! You now have the center of the flower. Only one more easy step to go...
Step 9: Make a couple snips with your scissors in the middle of the coffee filter flowers, and then slide the coffee filter flowers up from the bottom of the paper-covered wire. When it reaches the taped-up base of the tissue flower, pinch the coffee filters around the wire and tape them to the wire.
Step 10: You now have a lovely paper flower! As a said, you can make the flower centers with magazine pages as well, which is what I did in the top flower of Fig. 10.
Overall, this DIY was easy and fun. It probably took me about 6-7 minutes to make one flower once I got all the materials gathered, and my second flower was considerably better than the first once I got the hang of it. If you're thinking about making easy, affordable decorations for your wedding day, I would definitely recommend these! Have them stand alone, or bundle them up with other types of paper flowers (there's a lot of ways to make paper flowers -- seriously, just look on Pinterest) for some added variety!
