18 boho flower girls who totally nailed their wedding outfits!
by Stephanie

It goes without saying that all eyes are on the bride on her wedding day — but that doesn't mean your other attendants can't look amazing & stylish on the big day too! Having an adorable flower girl walk down the aisle at your ceremony is a must for many brides and families, and lately the boho flower girl style has been increasingly popular. And for good reason — once you see these little ladies strutting their stuff in boho dresses and flower crowns, you might  just consider it for your flower girl!

We've rounded up three different flower girl styles for you to choose from, along with a few DIY flower crown tutorials to help create the must-have boho accessory. With just a bit of shopping and crafting, you'll be whipping up the perfect boho flower girl look in no time!

Tutus:

An tutu-style dress is a popular choice for flower girls; and really, can the look be any more adorable? Your littlest attendant will feel like a dreamy fairy or ballerina in a tutu-style dress, and will be skipping down the aisle like a pro in one of these frocks. Just add flowers to her hair (and maybe a fairy wand for good measure?) for the ultimate boho experience.

Thinking of dressing your flower girl in a tutu style dress for the big day? Consider our favorite options here...

Colorful details:

While white is a classic choice for flower girls (really, who's going to confuse a 2 year old with the bride anyway?), flower girls in pastels look just as ethereal and romantic. How sweet is the little one below with her pink patterned dress and flower-filled crown? Feel free to choose a look that best complements your wedding day!

Classic white dresses:

Maybe you're all about the classic look with a boho twist? Well then consider one of these gorgeous white dresses for your little ladies. You can't go wrong with picking all-white dresses with a little something special... lace, ruffles, you name it! The best of part of all is that a classic white flower girl dress is so easy to accessorize, that it'll work with any color scheme. Check out our favorite looks below!

Wedding budget checklists and resources for new brides
by Stephanie

Ask any newlywed bride about the most stressful aspects of planning a wedding, and you're sure to find that the wedding budget is mentioned in there somewhere. Getting engaged turns the fantasy of the wedding into a reality, and oftentimes nothing bites harder in reality than realizing your fantasy wedding isn't financially realistic. And as the average price tag for a wedding steadily increases, engaged couples oftentimes struggle to find the balance between a beautiful and in-budget wedding day. I'll be the first to admit that I started panicking hard when I realized how far my projected wedding budget would actually go.

However, this post isn't about bumming you out about your wedding day — it's about being prepared with wedding budget checklists, tools and spreadsheets to plan and budget the wedding of your dreams, no matter how large or small your wedding checking account.

Getting started

First things first — you'll need to sit down and talk with your family and fiancé to start figuring out how much you have available, and how much you're comfortable spending. If you need advice for getting conversations started and prioritizes organized in regards to your wedding budget, we highly recommend you visit this post on how to create your wedding budget.

Once you've got a number nailed down that you're more or less planning on sticking to, it's time to start allocating. A warning: this is probably the most stress-inducing part, at least for me. So, now you know.

Allocating your budget

Most brides (yours truly included) are shocked to find out that your reception (which includes your venue, food, drink, decor, DJ, etc) will take up roughly 50% of your wedding budget. But once you recover from sticker shock and start thinking about it, it does make sense — you're providing a nice dinner, venue and drinks for probably 100 more people. When was the last time you paid for dinner for 100 of your nearest and dearest? My guess is never, but if you start thinking along those lines, it can start to become more digestible.

Here's a rough sketch of a typical wedding budget breakdown:

  • Reception (Venue, food and beverage): 47%
  • Honeymoon: 10%
  • Rehearsal dinner: 8%
  • Photography: 8%
  • Apparel: 6%
  • Wedding rings: 5%
  • Favors & gifts: 4%
  • Flowers: 4%
  • Stationery: 3%
  • Ceremony: 3%
  • Misc: 2%

With some quick mental math, you can start to roughly break down where your wedding budget will go. For example, if you're planning to spend 30k, about 15k will go towards your reception, 3k will go to your honeymoon, etc.

Wedding budget tools

Of course, no one wants to keep a running tally of wedding budget allocation in their heads, so we've rounded up our two favorite tools to help you keep track of that budget. This handy wedding planning spreadsheet by Style Me Pretty and Google Docs is a lifesaver, and keeps all those numbers nice and updated with every addition and subtraction you make. Or if you're more of a pen-and-paper kind of person, this wedding budget checklist and worksheet by Real Simple is a great free and printable option.

Okay, now that you've got your budget and tools for allocating resources, it's time to think of the type of wedding day you're going to have, and what's important to you. No two weddings are the same, and those allocation amounts are just guidelines. You can adjust them as needed to fit your vision — for example, maybe you'll be DIYing your flowers and stationery for a backyard wedding day. Your budget should reflect that! If you're stumped, check out these real sample wedding budgets, rounded up by the lovely ladies at A Practical Wedding.

All the small things

On a final note, the last thing to think about is those pesky, hidden wedding costs that inevitably pop up. Trust us, it'll get pretty stressful pretty quickly if you realize your wedding checking account is low and you've still got thousands more to pay! While you can't predict the future and what shape your wedding budget will be in, you can at least anticipate some of those hidden wedding costs that could tip you over the edge.

Well there you have it, brides and grooms! Your crash course in wedding budget checklists and resources. Hopefully you're equipped now with the knowledge to move forward and plan your dream wedding...in budget. What was your experience with your wedding budget? Let us know in the comments!

An elegant boho-chic elopement by Timepiece Studio + Gold Coast Goods
by Stephanie

Gorgeous mountain elopement with a stunning bride
Gorgeous mountain elopement with a stunning bride

It's always an amazing treat when talented wedding vendors think of Wedding Party for their styled shoots — especially when we receive a submission as pretty and unique as the one we're featuring today! Styled by Samantha of Gold Coast Goods and captured elegantly by Timepiece Studio, this boho-chic elopement in the mountains of California is the perfect dose of prettiness for a mid-week pick me up. A few words from the vendor team:

This romantic and elegant celebration, photographed by Timepiece Studio, took place in the picturesque Angelus Mountains in Altadena, CA. We brought on the talent of Meredith Cherniack of Lavender & Clove to do the prop and event styling. She elevated the the decor with a crushed velvet sofa as the lounge center piece and added rustic crates for a vintage feel at the bar. Gorgeous peonies and roses took center stage in her floral designs.

Public Provisions was on hand to mix custom craft cocktails for the bridal party and add an uptown feel to the party. Her signature champagne cocktail is mixed with Dry Brut, angostura bitters and apple juice.

Wardrobe stylist Samantha Baker brought together Bridal gowns from Rue De Seine, a unique bridesmaid choice by Alice & Olivia and menswear from Ted Baker and Zara. The gentlemen's looks are especially dapper thanks to custom neckwear from local Los Angeles brand Gold Coast Goods. Human Hair Wigs and Makeup artist Samantha Joann finished off the models looks to create an elegantly flawless result.

So let's get right to it — continue on for more boho-chic gorgeousness, because trust me... this is a mountain elopement you don't want to miss it!

by Stephanie

It's a well-known fact that all eyes will be on the bride on the wedding day. However, that doesn't mean the groom and groomsmen shouldn't consider a stylish getup as well! In fact, a well-dressed groom and groomsmen will make the bride and bridesmaids look even more put together — and we all want the wedding day photos to look great, right?

Whether your wedding is eclectic, rustic or classic, you're sure to be inspired by the unique spring groomsmen style ideas we've compiled here — they're anything but snooze-worthy!

Eclectic

Having a modern, colorful or eclectic wedding? What better way to bring that style to your groom and groomsmen's look with fun prints, colorful suspenders or unexpected bowties? (Not all at once though, hopefully!) These guys mixed color and style just right for an untraditional but super stylish wedding day look...

Rustic

Maybe your rustic barn wedding calls for a more toned down style — think mixing browns, blues and neutrals together for a look that's fitting for the groom and groomsmen. Bonus points for a simple but lovely boutonniere to pull the whole thing together!

Classic

A classic, traditional wedding doesn't mean your groomsmen's style has to be boring! Keep the look dapper and put together with a gray or blue fitted suit, and a tasteful splash of color with an elegant boutonniere. It's a look that'll stay stylish for years to come!

Well brides and grooms, what do you think of the three unique spring groomsmen styles above? Which is your favorite? I have to say — the first groom's red pants is definitely offbeat, but works SO well. Let us know how you're dressing your groomsmen in the comments!

How to collect photos from wedding guests: A Wedding Party tutorial
by Stephanie

Totally planning on using Wedding Party for my big day! It's a great way to collect photos from wedding guests and keep them updated on important info. And it's free!
Totally planning on using Wedding Party for my big day! It's a great way to collect photos from wedding guests and keep them updated on important info. And it's free!

So you're engaged, and it's getting closer to the big day. As you're sorting through the final, small details of your wedding (centerpieces, favors, etc), you'll find yourself occupied with many last-minute tasks and DIY projects on a short schedule. Any bride who's planned her wedding before knows that the last few months leading up to the wedding is filled with late-night runs to the craft store and frantic calls to bridesmaids!

One thing that all brides should consider though, is having a way to collect photos from wedding guests on and after the big day. Yes, your photographer and their seconds shooter (you got a second shooter, right?) will be capturing many special moments, but your guests are going to experience your big day a bit differently than you will be experiencing it; why not set up a way to be able to see their photos and your big day through an entirely different lens? With all the last minute to-dos, this might not be something that's on the top of your priority list. However, it doesn't need to be, because this is actually incredibly easy to do!

Wedding Partyis a custom app and website that brides and grooms can set up for free, which helps them communicate and share important wedding information and details with guests. While there are many great features to Wedding Party, today I'm going to highlight the photo-sharing feature. It's a free, easy way to collect photos from your wedding guests, and also a great way for wedding guests to share the photos they take of your big day with each other! Best of all, you can download all the photos later to your computer, and save them for printing, sending to relatives, or whatever else you were hoping to do with those pretty pics.

Here's how to get Wedding Party:

1. Download Wedding Party from the App Store or Google Play store (depending on your smart phone). Don't have a smart phone? You can also get it online at weddingpartyapp.com.

2. Choose the option to set up your wedding, create a new account, and follow the instructions to set up your wedding.

3. Once your wedding is set up, invite your guests. After all, you can't collect photos from your wedding guests if they're not on board as well!

4. While you're waiting for your wedding guests to join, experiment with the photo uploading feature. You can upload photos to your Wedding Party account no matter if you're using a smart phone or website. Adding some photos to start is a great way to encourage your guests to start uploading theirs too!

5. Make sure to remind guests about using Wedding Party in different ways. We provide you with custom table cards you can print and set out around your wedding to remind your guests to share their photos to Wedding Party. It's also helpful to have your core group of bridesmaids and groomsmen using Wedding Party and encouraging other guests to do so as well.

(Check out these 7 unique ways to invite guests to join Wedding Party, if you need some creative ideas!)

6. Watch as guests share the photos and their favorite memories from your big day on Wedding Party. Tell your guests they can also see the photos that everyone else took on Wedding Party as well -- they probably had such an awesome time they want to relive the magic!

7. Time to download! When you're satisfied with the photos that are uploaded to Wedding Party, go to your Wedding Party dashboard online at weddingpartyapp.com, and choose the option to download all your photos!

There you have it, brides! An easy way to collect photos from your wedding guests. Really, all you need to be able to do is download an app and set it up (and I promise it's so easy, your flower girl could do it). No need to spend money, hours of your time, or any stress. Once you set it up, the rest is on your guests to get on board and start sharing!

Ready to try it out? Get started with Wedding Party here.

7 New Years resolutions for brides & grooms in 2015
by Stephanie

Well it's officially the last day of the year. Can you believe it? With lots of bubbly, fireworks, and maybe even a NYE kiss on the way, there sure is a lot to look forward to in the next 24 hours. Not least of which...a whole New Year!

If you're engaged and looking forward to a wedding this year, then you have quite a lot to think about, and look forward to. I know -- I'm engaged to! So I'm making these New Years resolutions for brides and grooms to think about in 2015...

1. Brides: Resolve to... think about the wedding day as a community celebration of your relationship; it's not just YOUR special day.

2. Grooms: Resolve to... be a co-captain on your wedding planning team, not a benchwarmer!

3. Brides: Resolve to... ask for help when you need it. Because wedding planning alone is lonely and stressful, and you should enjoy your time as a bride-to-be.

4. Grooms: Resolve to... take your bride-to-be on fun and romantic date nights to get away from wedding stress every once and a while.

5. Brides: Resolve to... document this special time in your life as much as possible! Take selfies, keep a planning diary, and share planning and DIY dates with your friends. You only are engaged once, so make sure you don't let the time just pass you by!

6. Grooms: Resolve to... surprise your bride with something special on the day of... just to make the big day extra memorable.

7. Brides and grooms: Resolve to... commit to an amazing marriage. Because that's what your wedding really is all about!

Well brides and grooms? Sound like reasonable resolutions for your upcoming 2015 as an engaged couple, or do you have other resolutions in mind? Let us know what you're planning for your 2015 wedding in the comments!
