What were the hardest and the easiest parts of planning your wedding? : The hardest part was trying to navigate everyone's opinions and desires for the big day. We had a lot of help from our parents, which we were so grateful for because it allowed us to have the wedding that we really wanted. And mostly everyone got along really well and just wanted us to have the best wedding possible. But there were a few times when we had to decide between disappointing someone and getting what we really wanted. And of course money always complicates those types of things. But in the end, we figured out which things were most important to us, and which we were willing to compromise on.
The easiest part was getting to our venue that morning, because I decided that once I got there, I was just going to sit back and enjoy the ride.
What was one thing that surprised you about your wedding? : This sounds cliche, but I was surprised how fast it all went! Seriously, my girls and I had been hanging out and getting ready since 8 a.m., and all of a sudden I looked at my phone and it was 2:40 and I only had 20 minutes before I was supposed to walk down the aisle. Whenever I got a second to myself and I could remember, I would take a breath and look around and try to appreciate everything... but it still felt like the fastest day of my life!
How did you make your wedding unique to you and your fiancé?: We're both writers, so we decided to write the ceremony ourselves, with influences from Christianity, Buddhism, and literature. And we actually sat down to write it together so that it was not only really original, but also very personable to us as individuals, and as a couple. Multiple guests came up to us afterward to tell us how beautiful they thought it was, which was so nice to hear because we wanted people to feel engaged during our ceremony.
How did you make your wedding unique to you and your fiancé? :Being literary types, we wanted to incorporate old books into our centerpieces and decorations, which our florist did such an amazing with. She even set up this cool old typewriter by our guest book. It was a cute kind of theme without being tacky. It somehow felt very natural in that space.
What was your favorite moment of your wedding day? : My favorite moment was our first dance. Until then, everything was going by so fast, and I was either nervous or kind of overwhelmed. Our dance was the first time that day that I really got to relax and just hang out with Brian and enjoy everything. Everything kind of slowed down for a couple of minutes. It was also really special because two of our bridal party performed our song, "Something," by the Beatles. My cousin/bridesmaid sang, and Brian's groomsmen played guitar. It was so memorable and romantic.
Looking back what are the details that make you the happiest when you reflect on your wedding? : I am so happy that everyone Brian and I love were in one place celebrating with us and having an amazing time, when else do you get that in life?
I'm also amazed at how perfect the weather was that day , 70 degrees and sunny, which is crazy for late fall in Pennsylvania. We got so lucky, because everything was outdoors! That next Saturday, which was also a date we were considering, it was freezing and hailed!
Isn't this possibly the sweetest fall wedding you have ever seen? I just love all of Jess and Brian's personal touches, such as the typewriter next to the guest book, and the S'mores!
