Today's classic and elegant DIY wedding day comes from a very special place — it's the wedding of one of our very own writers, Rachel Geeser (formerly Kenny)! We're thrilled to feature this gorgeous wedding, which was perfect down to the very last detail. With mint, navy and gold polka dots tying the entire day together, this DIY day was put together with a lot of love. A few words from the bride...
"I wanted to make sure that every aspect of our wedding felt personal and true to who my husband and I are and also wanted our guests to have a great time! My husband and I were married at our alma mater, the place where we met (and also where his parents met!) and was a destination wedding for almost all of our guests.
From our welcome bags, where we included root beer from Chicago's Goose Island Brewery (where we live) and potato chips from Billy Goat Chip Company in St. Louis (where my husband is from), plus homemade macaroons we made together the week of the wedding and a personal note tied to each bag, we wanted our guests to feel welcome and excited for the events to come. At our cocktail hour we had the university's marching band make a surprise appearance to introduce the wedding party and I surprised my husband with a bacon bar at our reception.
All of our flowers were DIY'd by a family friend and my matron of honor custom designed all of our invitations, programs and menus. I also handmade all of the table numbers, and my mom, sister and I spent more time than we'd like to admit covered in glitter DIYing the candle votives, dress hangers, shoes and the monogram that hung above our reception head table."
